Vietnam is a country with many beautiful festivals. There is an anual festival taking place in Cau Ke district, Tra Vinh province in the 7th month of the lunar calendar. What is the name of the festival? What is its highlight? Let’s find out.

Every year, people from different places flock to Cau Ke district to join “Vu Lan Bao Hieu” (The Ghost festival), which is also called “Cung Ong Bon” festival. The festival mostly takes place in the “Ong Bon” temple.

The highlight of the “Vu Lan Bao Hieu” festival in Cau Ke district is the return of “Ong Bon”. “Ong Bon” returns by entering into the body of an ordinary man. Sometimes the corpse is a normal farmer or a retired cadre. Other customs include slitting his tongue and drawing a charm. “Ong Bon” speaks Chinese every time he returns because this is a festival of an ethnic group in Vietnam - “Hoa”. After “Ong Bon” completes the etiquette, he will leave the possessed body. The body entered by “Ong Bon” will pass out for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, the unconscious person will return to be a normal person and they do not remember the things that happened before. At that time, everyone centralizes there to pray for sins of the dead souls of their families to be forgiven as well as to pray for their own peace.

In Cau Ke, there are six locations of beliefs: Van Ung Phong Cung, Nien Phong Cung, Van Duc Cung Minh Duc Cung, Thien Phong Cung, and Van Nien Phong Cung. The most special is Minh Duc Cung temple which has just been recognized as a national architectural art monument. It was built more than 200 years ago.

On two main days of the festival (27th and 28th), it takes place in Van Nien Phong Cung temple. There are various activities on those days such as: trade fair, entertainment, music night... Visitors can enjoy many fruits of the fruit festival such as: banana, orange, durian, mangosteen, rambutan, coconut... Especially, there is “dua sap” - the unique fruit and also a specialty of Cau Ke district. It is a kind of coconuts with more white flesh inside. Besides the fruits, visitors can enjoy street food, which are displayed at the stalls in the festival.

Cau Ke district is countryside of delicious fruits and it is also a multicultural land of three ethnic groups living together: Kinh- Hoa- Khmer. The authorities of Cau Ke are trying their best to improve people’s life but still keep the traditional culture. I feel happy because I was born and grow up in Cau Ke district of Tra Vinh province. Wherever I go in the future, I will never forget this beautiful and peaceful countryside.

Being a student of Tra Vinh University was absolutely a dream come true for me. I would like to share many interesting things about my college - a friendly and supportive learning environment.

To be more precise about TVU, it has three campuses, two satellite centers, one big modern library, one well-equipped hospital and one large dormitory. Taking the slogan "bringing highly qualified education to community ", TVU gives its students many opportunities to gain practical and useful life experience while studying. Moreover, our university also creates the best job opportunities for us after graduating. The next well-known thing of TVU is “Fresh and Green”, that means our university is surrounded by a lot of old green trees with large umbrage. This not only helps students feel comfortable to play and chat everywhere in the campus but also makes the university more beautiful and environment-friendly.

School of Foreign Languages is one of the twelve schools in my university. We have many exciting activities. For example, every Thursday night, my school holds an English Speaking Club which purpose is helping students improve their confidence and speaking skills. That is all about great things in my university.

To me, TVU is a great institute that I am proud to be one of students at this university. TVU also makes me feel that I’ll have good moments with friends and lecturers here, which help me a lot in my further study. I always tell myself that I would try my best to study and gain more achievements during my study at this university.

Have you ever performed as an actor or an actress? What do you think? Although some students said that play-acting requires a big effort and boring, I think it is an exciting experience. I used to play Puck character, a lovely sprite in a famous play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, by William Shakespeare.

First of all, I realized that I had many difficulties to denote his characterization. Puck is intelligent and playful; therefore it was hard to understand Puck’s personality while I read the screenplay. I wondered how I could act to make my audience clearly understand my character, such as physical gestures, outer appearance, voice, costume, and the like. More importantly, Puck is considered as the main character, making the play funnily chaotic and then resolving conflicts to end the play happily. Therefore, I had to make every effort to take all the character’s traits through my emotion and actions.

Secondly, with this role, I got on well with my classmates. In addition, I was proud of myself after playing Puck character. In fact, there were many times when I could not act well, and I felt so bored. But I tried my best and thanked my partners for supporting and giving me some useful advice that helped me finish my character successfully.

To sum up, this assignment was challenging, but I have been happy because I had many beautiful memories with my team members and enjoyed my favorite character who I have never acted before.

When I began the first semester of the third-year, I have been studying a subject, British Literature 1. I have learnt much from this course. In fact, this subject has given me a bed of emotion and passion.

Love, family and friendship are values expressed clearly in many plays of William Shakespeare and Geoffrey Chaucer. For example, in many plays of Shakespeare, characters sacrifice for their love and they are willing to do everything for loved ones.

In addition, I can understand more about the important role of women. Although the settings were in the ancient society, in many situations, the female characters willingly gave up their life to save their children and spouse.

From the British Literature course, I have experienced many works of famous writers and I feel like one of the members in the pigrimage to Canterbury Catherdral written by Geoffrey Chaucer. Real stories told in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales sounded like bringing me to a new world, a world of myths, adventures, and thrilling cases. Their belief in god will bring them hope, happiness and overcome all difficulties. Negative forces will be punished accordingly.

To sum up, I have learnt a lot when receiving lectures of this subject. They teach me to respect the status of women in society. I will take care of my friendship, love and my family because those things are the most precious things in the world as well. Hopefully, next semester will continue to condition me to have good lectures and works in British Literature 2course.
