TVU, 22.9.2016 – TVU SFL is aiming to turn evening into really special class time with the launch of a series of English Enhancement and Special Topics Workshops on every Monday evening from 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.

The first workshop started on Monday 19.9 in the School Language Lab offering interested students  practical tips for taking the IELTS reading test.

The workshop, initiated by deputy dean Dr Ho Dac Tuc, is free for all TVU English majors and the class is limited to the maximum capacity of 30 learners who have registered on the basis of first come first serve.
 
These weekly workshops aim to target students who face misconception of a wide range of academic topics during class time. Topics covered include strategies for IELTS exam, basic grammatical structures, vocabulary skills, learning methodologies and other themes depending on students’ academic needs.

The School’s lecturer who conducted the first workshop, Mr. Huynh Ngoc Tai, led participants through  IELTS Reading test sections including Information on task types from Cambridge, Test-takers’ experience and Suggestions for IELTS preparation on reading skills.

Mr. Tai said:  “The purpose of the first topic is to share our experiences in the real IELTS exam conditions of reading skills and give some suggestions for students to prepare prior to taking IELTS tests. I hope that the attendeesfind thempractical and successfully apply them in in the real IELTSexams.”

“With the instructor’s convincing and clear explanations for each type task, I learn necessary techniques and gain motivation for the IELTS test. I am really thankful to the School for organizing such a meaningful workshop. I hope that I can attendmore interesting workshops in the future,” said Trinh Hoang Son, English junior from Class DA14NNA.

In-depth analysis combined with specific examples and test – takers’ real experience contributed to the success of this workshop. This reduces the participants’ pressure and increases their motivation for test practicing.

“I have tried to do the IELTS sample - tests from Cambridge, but I was not satisfied with my results. This workshop helps me recognize what I should improve and makes me more interested in IELTS tests achievement,” said Nguyen Ngoc Quoc Cuong, Year 4 English major (Class DA13NNAA).

Interested English majors are welcomed to the workshop to polish their English in a fun and seasonal way. Students are advised to reserve seats for specific topic via a link provided in a weekly announcement on the School's website.
