TVU, 15.6.2017 – Diane Michele Millar, U.S. Embassy Regional English Language Officer, visited Tra Vinh University today to see the success of the Access English Microscholarship Program implemented through the TVU School of Foreign Languages and funded by the U.S. Department of State through the U.S. Embassy.
Dr Nguyen Tien Dung, Vice Rector of TVU, acknowledged the significance of the Access Program to the local population, and expressed his gratitude to the delegates for their visit.
Afterwards Mr Khau Hoang Anh of the School briefed about the program’s implementations and its successful impact on the teenage students. He said the students learned about the English language, American culture, and participated in field trips which provided a foundation of English language skills to 13-16 year-olds from Tra Vinh’s economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
In her remarks, Ms Diane warmly thanked Tra Vinh University on behalf of the U.S. Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City for the friendship and cooperation in this program implemented over the past one and a half years. She also talked about how the U.S. Consulate and TVU could work in the future and other opportunities for English language teachers to work with the U.S. government.
Ms Diane then visited the Access classroom and conducted a one hour teaching activity. She asked the students about their studies, and posed questions about US culture and history.
The U.S. government has funded the Access Program all over the world. TVU is honoured to be part of this program that enables participants developing English language skills.
