On Thursday evening, September 24, 2020, monthly fun learning activity, English Speaking Club (ESC) of the School of Foreign Languages, Tra Vinh University, was held at B11.204, attracted a lot of students and lecturers.

The topic of this first meeting in the 2020 - 2021 school year is Translation and Interpretation. It spotlights the importance of interpreting activities and the joy of learning for students through idiom puzzle.

The show started with the first part “Becoming an interpreter”. Different groups at three interpreted some given situations, then answered the questions from the show’s MCs.

The second part was “Idiom puzzle”. This part emphasized the significance of students’ teamwork and their background knowledge because they must discuss with their members to discover implicit idioms through the pictures. The third part was called “Where’s your body?”. Students listened to an English song, then translated it into Vietnamese. It encouraged students to apply what they have learnt into practice. These activities, thus, not only help students feel comfortable to learn and play in the meeting but also help them gain more knowledge and creativeness.

Son Minh Thien, a sophomore of the School of Foreign Languages, said: “The topic is very interesting. Thanks to this meeting, I can better understand interpreting activities. It is also an enormous opportunity to get valuable learning experiences shared by senior students”.

That night’s exciting experience is the result of a team of both students and lecturers from the School of Foreign Languages after a month of hard work. They all really made a great and lasting impression for the attendees at that time.

Each year, Tra Vinh University organizes several extracurricular activities for students, especially the School of Foreign Languages (SFL). Through these activities, students are able to be trained many helpful skills and gain precious experience.
Firstly, sporting games are one of the most favorite activities for students in the SFL. Yearly, students participate in the Faculty Tournament including football, volleyball, and badminton. However, football is the most favorable kind of sports, which is chosen by most of the students in the School to relax after hard studying time. Also, playing this game is a good way for students to strengthen their health and their body.

Secondly, it is the English Speaking Club (ESC), which offers students an ideal opportunity to perfect their English skills. For example, they can enhance their communication skills when joining the activities in the club. Thus, they can make friends, share their learning methods with other members and help each other get a better result in study.

Lastly, another interesting thing is the annual event - Get Together, which regularly takes place in the end of December. It is the biggest and the most exciting event of the SFL. There are a lot of students and teachers coming and enjoying plenty of wonderful performances of students from the SFL and university in a variety of languages (e.g. English, Chinese, French and Korean).

These are seen as the main extracurricular activities in the School of Foreign Languages, which are necessary for the students’ full development in addition to having lessons in class.
