Student Voice

Most students ask why English majors study English literature when they study at School of Foreign languages of TVU. Some people think that it is a compulsory and boring subject. However, some are interested in English literature because of excellent and valuable works of famous author’s all over the world. For me, I really enjoy English literature due to my time of inspiration and creativity.

Firstly, literature arouses our mind to enter literacy passion through abundant and attractive plots of epics, short stories or plays. For example, when you experience a work, you will get deeper understanding of the characters, human aspirations through various historical periods and traditions such as Beowulf, a brave hero as well as Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury tales reflecting satires and various social statues in each tale.

Secondly, English literature also helps you learn more both about the English language and aesthetic humanity. In other words, literature learners are able to expand useful knowledge such as vocabulary, sentence structures and the like. In fact, you can express your emotions or reflections and improve your own writing skills.

Additionally, you are able to discover a variety of multicultural aspects in each work by studying English literature. Surely, you experience characters’ thought and then, you learn, practise morals and get aware of thorough perception through characters’ personality traits whenever you analyze a piece of work.

In short, literature lectures help us to experience time of fun, pleasure and even improvement through precious lessons, quotes and sayings from typical works.

To be honest, I have never joined as well as become a member in any clubs at TVU before, so a half of my academic life seems to be quite boring.

One day, I fortunately had an opportunity to work in English Speaking club – a suitable place for all students who are passionate and want to improve English communication skills. Although I only played a mini-role in this group, I acquired a lot of experience and also widened my knowledge. My teacher and teammates guided me how to organize the program effectively. You may not know that all of the activities proposed have to be meaningful, so it takes time for us to find out the most fascinating ideas for only one purpose - your satisfaction. This is also the reason why I should come to ESC.

We do not receive any benefits at all but your attention and participation is the most spiritual gift after every successful program. I’ve joined ESC and so will you? Come to us and we will always support you!

After two years following English Speaking Club, I decided to be a member of this club. Although I usually just do several simple tasks, I can gain some interesting and useful experience after every meeting.

To attract more guests to come to each week’s topic, foreign volunteers and ESC members tirelessly organize various activities and mini games to help improve English skills. By this way, students can relax after class as well as learn English freely and efficiently. From my point of view, helpful volunteers, enthusiastic organizers, useful topics, attractive activities and active participants are elements leading to the success of ESC.

Joining English Speaking Club is not only an opportunity for me and other members to improve teamwork and communication skills, but also a big help for students from any majors to exchange and get more knowledge in English.
